use of the festivals and auspicious days , for an individual !

answer :

these festivals are not just pump-and show, for entertainment.

they have an spiritual significance also.

for understanding with a common example.  these auspicious days are like a "sale-season/day" as in a super market.

prayers and celebration on these days, takes us to the love of god, with little effort only.  so it is like a bumber sale day in a super market.

secondly, in indian scriptures, celebrations, and festivities are another form of the god the almighty.

according to indian sprituality, god is the name for joy/happiness/comfort/feel good and over and above all the god is "bliss".  and festivals are god's another menifestation.

synopsis about the festivals:

Naraka Chaturdashi:

This day celebrates the victory of the God Krishna over the demon of filth, Narakasura.

Bhai Dooj or Yam Dwitiya   :
This festival is also the day of worship of Yama, the god of death

As the legend goes Yamraj, the God of Death visited his sister Yami on this particular day. She put the auspicious tilak on his forehead, garlanded him and led him with special dishes and both of them together ate the sweets, talked and enjoyed themselves to their heart's content, while parting Yamraj gave her a special gift as a token of his love and in return Yami also gave him a lovely gift which she had made with her own hands. That is why this day of Bhayyaduj is also known by the name of "YAMA-DWITIYA"

yama is the brother in law of krishna , as yamuna , his sister is married to krishna.

anybody, celebrating this festival , is away from the torture of yamraj, after death, in all the circumstances.

Govardhan Puja, also called Annakut (meaning a heap of grain)[clarification needed], is celebrated as the day Krishna defeated Indra

According to another popular legend, when the Gods and demons churned the ocean for Amrita or nectar, Dhanvantari (the physician of the Gods and an incarnation of Vishnu) emerged carrying a jar of the elixir on the day of Dhanteras.
Dhanteras is also known as Dhantrayodashi, and takes place two days before Diwali, in honour of Dhanavantri, the physician of the gods and an incarnation of Vishnu.
